A few years ago Pietro began to take an interest in plants and botany. Especially for begonias, because the leaves are asymmetrical and there are many different species. That’s why we started visiting botanical gardens.
In Guatemala there is a great diversity of flora and fauna… So we went to several parks such as Tikal National Park, Biotopo del Quetzal, Siete Altares, Semuc Champey… Where the idea of creating a piece inspired by the foliage and movement of plants began.
In 2022 we visited the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in England. Originally we wanted to create a print or a 2D art to capture the colors and textures of what we saw… We were impressed by the aquatic plants…

Other Gardens are more nostalgic and as if frozen in time.
The one in Coral Gables, Fairchild Botanic Garden, for example, we loved the route and the good conditioning of the park. What I particularly like the most are the greenhouse houses, they are nostalgic and cozy… I like to be there for a long time, take pictures. Also most are damp and smell like wet earth, it’s nice.
The Folia sculpture is inspired by the foliage of palm trees, the dry leaves that fall. I liked this movement that they generate to capture it in a sculpture, we use several techniques to achieve it, wood bending and tension. Also a little costume jewelry…
This piece can grow or mutate depending on the folia we choose or the size of the surface. It is now part of the Piegatto art collection and personally reminds us of botanical gardens.
